    Paulton Birth Centre

    A maternity unit in Somerset has closed after a strain of legionella bacteria was found in the water system
    Paulton Birth Centre is shut while NHS Property Services, which owns the site, carries out "essential upgrade work".
    A spokesman said water tanks would be drained and removed after a positive test for legionella from a sluice in a non-patient area of the unit.
    Expectant mothers who were due to attend will now give birth elsewhere.

    Castleton Swimming Pool

    Castleton Swimming Pool has been forced to close its doors after potentially deadly Legionella was found in the water.
    The pool, which runs various swimming classes for children’s group Aqua Bears, was found to have the bacteria last week.
    Legionella is the bacteria which causes Legionnaires’ disease – a serious lung infection which can sometimes lead to pneumonia and even death.

    Royal Sussex County Hospital

    A hospital trust has been fined £50,000 following an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in 2011 that may have hastened the death of an elderly patient.
    Joan Rayment, of Eastbourne, is thought to have contracted the bug from a shower at Royal Sussex County Hospital.
    An inquest found she died from natural causes seven days after she tested positive for the disease.
    Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals admitted a health and safety offence at a previous hearing.

    Paulton Birth Centre

    Part of a hospital maternity unit has closed for the second time in four months after a strain of legionella was found in the water system.
    Paulton Birth Centre in Somerset was shut in March after traces of the bacteria were discovered.
    NHS Property Services, which owns and manages the centre, said it has been closed to new births since Friday.
    The post and antenatal departments remain open. No date has been given for when the centre will fully reopen.

    JTF Wholesale Limited

    A firm has denied causing the deaths of two men alleged to have caught Legionnaires' disease from a hot tub at one of its stores.
    It is alleged Richard Griffin, 64, and William Hammersley, 79, who died in 2012, were exposed to harmful levels of Legionella bacteria from a heated spa display.
    JTF Wholesale Limited has pleaded not guilty to two counts of corporate manslaughter.
    A trial is expected next year.

    BUPA Care home

    An 86-year-old man died of suspected Legionnaires' Disease while at a £1,000-a-week BUPA care home, his family claim.
    A jury inquest in Chelmsford will hear that Kenneth Ibbetson died after being rushed to Basildon Hospital from the home.
    Mr Ibbetson's family helped him move into the Hutton Village facility near Ingatestone, Essex, early last year.

    Walton-on-the-Naze Lifestyles

    A visitor to a council-owned leisure centre was hospitalised after contracting Legionnaires' Disease, it has emerged.
    Tests in the fitness room showers at Walton-on-the-Naze Lifestyles proved positive for legionella bacteria.
    The customer, who had used the fitness room and shower facilities, fell ill on 18 November.
    Tendring District Council said its fitness room showers would be closed until the bacteria was eradicated.
    The council said it did not know whether the customer was still in hospital.

    Gloucestershire Royal Hospital 

    An investigation has been launched after a woman receiving treatment at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital caught the legionella infection
    The hospital is investigating the incident which affected a patient at Severn Dialysis Unit in the hospital in early October.
    Results of investigations have been discussed with Public Health England last week and it was suggested that the patient may have contracted their infection at the unit.
    A joint review, undertaken with Public Health England, is ongoing.
    There are no other patients affected and the hospital says remedial work and enhanced control measures have removed any possible risk of infection to patients, visitors and staff in the unit.
